Monday, monday…How do you always show up so fast? Didn’t the weekend just start? Let’s revisit the fun of the weekend days.
I love Fridays during the summer. The husband gets off a few hours early on Fridays and was home around 3. I worked at school in the morning and we had a 5 mile run on our agenda. I wasn’t able to get a good lunch in due to poor planning/closed food courts at school so I didn’t feel very good so we capped it at 2 miles. I was pretty bummed but I needed to listen to my body. That evening we celebrated a good friend’s 30th birthday at one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been too, The Row House in Topeka. I managed to not snap one single picture but whatcanyado. Here is one I stole from Facebook…
We enjoyed a great dinner with great friends.
Saturday was pretty low-key. We met friends for lunch at Free State Brewing Co. and went to our favorite running store to get the husband new shoes (so jealous!) and some other needs for our long run on Sunday. The husband has been trying to figure out his nutrition needs so we bought a couple new things to try including Honey Stinger Waffles. He tried the Strawberry flavor on our run and it seemed to work very well. I had a bite and was really impressed. I’ve never trained with “real food” before but I might try now. Even though we were still really full from lunch we couldn’t resist stopping by a new storefront in down town Lawrence. Welcome Hotbox Cookies! They make cookies fresh in store and sell them for just a buck. We each got two, I picked the M&M cookie and the chocolate cookies with white chocolate chips and the husband picked the oatmeal raisin and cookies & cream. They were amazing. I like my baked goods slightly underdone and these were just right. Best thing about Hotbox is that they deliver! What a great idea! We spend the rest of our evening hanging out with Linus and I went to bed early in anticipation of a PDR on Sunday.
I got up around 6 AM because I wanted to beat the heat! I had two slices of PB toast and we headed out for our run at 7 AM. We took Linus with us for the first three miles and he loved the cooler temps, he even through a fartleks in there just for good measure. Ha! We dropped Linus off and picked up our handheld waterbottles and fuel. I put two tabs of Cherry Limeade nuun in mine (my favorite!) and carried some Shot Bloks in Citrus and Black Cherry. This was going to be our longest run ever and I was nervous but excited to run. We did a 6 mile out and back and then a 5 mile loop. We made it and I was really proud of my new PDR. By the end I wasn’t feeling super strong but I was feeling confident in my ability to push myself.
When we got back to our apartment I spent a lot of time foam rolling, icing, and stretching (all of which I repeated a few times throughout the day). We celebrated our accomplishment with cheeseburgers from a new to us place and a nap. To end our evening we rented Olympus Has Fallen and while it wasn’t the best movie ever made it was certainly better than other movies in that genre especially with Gerard Butler to look at. All in all it was a really solid weekend.
How was your weekend? Any long runs? Watch any good flicks?
